Senior Software Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to co-lead the design, build, and deployment of production-grade AI and edge software powering autonomous aquaculture feeding. You will work across model serving, streaming data, device orchestration, and robust APIs to deliver reliable, low-latency intelligence in harsh, real-world environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate research outputs into robust, testable, and observable production services.
• Design and optimize deep learning models for acoustic/behavioural inference; own training-to-serving workflows.
• Build edge-deployed AI components with low-latency data paths and graceful degradation.
• Develop streaming & batch data pipelines (ingestion, feature stores, monitoring, drift/fault detection).
• Implement APIs and microservices for autonomous feeding control and partner integrations.
• Champion CI/CD, containerization, infrastructure-as-code, and performance tuning.
• Collaborate with hardware/field teams on telemetry, connectivity, and reliability in noisy environments.
• Maintain documentation, code quality, and security-by-design practices.

Qualifications (Required)

• 5+ years building production software (one of: Python, Go, or TypeScript/Node.js).
• Hands-on experience with deep learning (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and model serving (e.g., TorchServe, Triton, FastAPI).
• Strong systems fundamentals: concurrency, networking, profiling, and performance optimization.
• Containers & orchestration (Docker, Docker Compose; Kubernetes a plus).
• Streaming/data tools (e.g., Kafka/Redpanda, MQTT, Redis) and SQL/NoSQL datastores.
• CI/CD and cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP) with IaC (Terraform/Pulumi).
• Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving.

Nice to Have

• Edge AI/IoT experience (Jetson, Coral, ARM, or similar accelerators).
• Signal processing (acoustic, time-series), on-device optimization (ONNX, TensorRT).
• Observability at the edge (metrics, tracing, remote updates, fleet management).
• Security-by-design, secrets management, and zero-trust patterns.
• Experience with scientific/field deployments or robotics/autonomy.

What You’ll Work On

End-to-end delivery of AI-AFS modules: acoustic inference services, behaviour recognition pipelines, edge controllers, and real-time feedback loops that drive autonomous feeding decisions—validated in cross-border field trials under the Canada–UK collaboration.
